You can apply to search by owners name using Form
PN1, however you must satisfy the registrar that you have
sufficient interest, for example as a personal representative
or trustee in bankruptcy.
The manually completed form should be posted to the address
printed at the top of the form.
Where do I find other information?
Our main corporate web site contains further guidance about
Land Registry.
Or you can contact us by email.
Where are your offices?
A full list of our offices
can be found on our main site.
Are all title registers and title plans available
from this site?
The majority of them are. The percentage that is not generally relates to large land holdings.
How do I get copies of title registers, title plans and documents that aren't
available electronically?
These can be sent to you by post. You need to print and fill out an application form (Form
OC1) for a title register and title plan. For a document you will need to print and fill out an application form (Form
OC2). You should then post these to the appropriate Land Registry office. An office
finder is available from our main site.
Is the value of the house shown on all
title registers?
No. The price paid or value stated in a disposition (e.g.
a transfer) received for registration on or after 1st April
2000 has been entered on the title register, whenever practicable.
The entry remains on the title register until there is a change in
ownership that results in a new entry. Practice
Guide 7 Entry of price paid or value stated on the title register contains further information.
I am interested in finding out about the
history of my house. Can you help?
No. We do not retain information regarding the history of
a property.
Can you tell me if one of my ancestors
used to own a particular property and how they came to part
with it?
We do not retain information relating to the ownership of
a property before it was registered with us. After a property
becomes registered, we retain documents resulting in changes
of ownership. If you are making an enquiry of this type, it
would be best if you initially did so by way of a letter. You
should set out the property you are interested in, and as much
information as you can provide with respect to approximate dates
of purchase and sale etc. We will do our best to assist, but
please bear in mind that we may not hold this information. You
will need to complete an application form (available from our
main site) in order to request copies of documents. A fee is
payable for copies of any records that we provide in response
to your enquiry, but we will inform you of this before proceeding.
You may also find the website http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/
a source of useful advice and resources for family historians.
Do you keep historical records of property
ownership?
See question above. We can also provide copies of our
records of ownership in relation to registered property where
they relate to our computerised records only. You will need
to complete an application Form HC1
in order to request copies of our computerised historical records.
A fee is payable for providing a copy of these records, but
we will inform you of this before proceeding. It is best to set out your enquiry in a letter to us in order
that we can investigate our records and establish what information
we hold that may assist you.
Is the use of Land Register Online limited?
We do not limit the number of times you can visit Land Register
Online or the number of times you can download details from us.
However, your credit card company may have placed restrictions on the number
of times your card can be used at the same location within a short time and this
