Need help using the facilities in this service? This section contains guidance on how to locate properties and then how to download any documents you are interested in viewing.
Aerial Land Locator is the name of the searching tool which enables you to use maps and/or aerial photographs in order to pinpoint property you are interested in. You will then be able to purchase the title register and title plan if they are available for that property.
It will help you to locate property whether you have some, all, or no address details for the property you are interested in.
How do I find information for property that I am interested in using Aerial Land Locator?
There are 3 main ways in which you can use Aerial Land Locator to help you find information on the property you are interested. You will then be able to purchase the title register if they are available for that property.
You can search using only the map (which will always be offered first), or only the aerial imagery, or a combination of both, by selecting the different tabs at the top of the image.
Using some or all of the address: select the map search option. You can enter any combination of correct address information, and by pressing search this will generate a map of this area. When you reach the most detailed level the 'Find Properties' button will be made available. (The most detailed level we have is house and street level, which is at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250). Selecting this option will change the cursor from a cross to a radius. You can use the Radius Search to find out about the property you are interested in.
Using the Zoom and centre function: Select the Zoom and centre button. Use the cursor to click on the map/aerial image to enlarge and centre the area of interest. Once the area you are interested in is enlarged to a scale of 1/2500 or 1/1250 the Find properties button will be made available. Click on this button to change the cursor to a circle radius and use this radius to select the property/ area you are interested in. A list of address results will then be given for the area covered by the radius, starting with those closest to the centre.
Selecting the scale: Select the map search option. You can select different scales from the drop down menu available to help you find the area you are interested in. The most detailed level we have is house and street level, which is at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250. When you select this scale, the 'Find Properties' button will be made available. Clicking on this button will change the cursor from a cross to a radius. You can then use the Radius Search to find out about the property you are interested in.
How do I move around the map and/or aerial photographs to find the area I am interested in?
You can move around the maps and aerial photographs in the following ways:
Press 'North' to move the map and/or aerial photograph upwards
Press 'East' to move the map and/or aerial photograph to the right
Press 'South' to move the map and/or aerial photograph downwards
Press 'West' to move the map and/or aerial photograph to the left
Click on the 'Centre Map' button, and the map and/or aerial photograph will then centre on the area you have clicked.
Select the 'Zoom and Centre Map' button, which will centre the map and or aerial photograph on the area you are interested in, whilst also zooming in on that area each time you click it, until you get to scale 1/1250, which is the most detailed level we have.
Select different scales using the drop down menu provided.
In order to use the Radius Search to help you to find information on the property you are interested in, you will need to be at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250, which shows as street and house level if you are using the aerial photograph.
When can I use the 'Find properties' button to get the information I am interested in?
You can only click on the 'Find properties' button when you reach street and house level, which is at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250. It is at this point that you can use the Radius Search to find the information on the property you are interested in. If we hold information on this area, the results will be revealed above the map (if there is one result), below the map (if there is more than one result).
What is the radius search?
The radius search allows you to get the most accurate results possible. You can only use the Radius search at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250, by pressing the 'Find Properties' button.
The radius is a circle around the cursor. You can choose the size most useful to you from a choice of 5m, 10m or 20m. When you select the 'Find Properties' button the cursor changes from a cross to a radius. You must ensure that you place the cursor in the middle of the radius on the area you are interested in, in order to get the correct property information.
The first result(s) shown relate to the property directly under the cursor. There will possibly be further result(s) shown, and these will be for properties within the rest of the radius.
How do I search areas in Northern Ireland and Scotland?
Land Registry only holds property information for land registered in England and Wales. If you search elsewhere, we are unable to provide property information to you. These countries have their own Registries. Here are the links to the registry Websites of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Why are there no aerial photographs available for the area I am interested in?
It is quite possible that you may not be able to see an aerial photograph for the area you are looking for. You will always be able to use the map to find the area you are interested in, and to complete a search of it.
The aerial photographs are currently available for most of England and Wales; our aerial photograph provider updates us with new photographs all the time.
As new photographs become available they will be loaded into our system. This is done seamlessly and without interruption to our service.
